The department of business education, Osun State college of education Ila Orangun was established in 1981. The first set of students were admitted into the department during the 1981/82 academic year with 24 students.
The department graduated her first set of students in 1984.
When the department was created, It was initially placed under the School of Education, later on School of Technical Education was established and the department was moved to the new school. Currently, the department is under the School of Vocational and Technical Education.
During the 1981/82 academic year there were 8 lecturers in the department comprising of 3 Youth Corpers and 5 permanent staff. Currently, permanent staff were four (4) females and eight (8) males making a total of 12 Lecturers.
The department specialized in two major course combinations namely:
1.Accounting and Book-Keeping Education
2. Office Technology and Management Education (formerly referred to as Secretarial Studies)
The department has produced many graduates in the above areas of specialization and were gainfully employed or embarked on further studies.
